संत गोरोबा कुंभार
संत ज्ञानेश्र्वरकालीन संत प्रभावळीतील सत्पुरुषांपैकी ‘कोणाचा आध्यात्मिक अधिकार किती मोठा’ याचा निर्णय करण्याचा आध्यात्मिक अधिकार असलेले, सर्वार्थाने ज्येष्ठ - गोरोबाकाका!
गोरा कुंभार हे आध्यत्मिकदृष्ट्या संतपदाला पोहोचलेले होते, तसेच ते संत कवीही होते. पंढरपूरच्या विठ्ठलाचे ते अनन्यसाधारण भक्त होते. गोराबा हे संत मंडळींमध्ये वयाने सर्वांहून वडील होते. त्यांना सर्व जण गोरोबाकाका म्हणत असत. त्यांचे गाव मराठवाड्यातील धाराशिव-उस्मानाबादजवळील तेर-ढोकी (या गावास सत्यपुरी किंवा तेरणा असेही म्हणतात) हे होय. गोरोबाकाका प्रापंचिक असूनही विरक्तच राहिले. त्यांचा पारमार्थिक अधिकार मोठा होता, पारमार्थिक क्षेत्रात त्यांचा शब्द प्रमाण मानला गेला. संत ज्ञानेश्र्वर-नामदेव यांच्या समकालीन असलेल्या गोरोबांचे जन्मवर्ष इ. स. १२६७ मानले जाते.
श्री विठ्ठलाचे स्मरण सतत त्यांच्या मुखात असे. त्यांना नामस्मरणापुढे कशाचेच भान उरत नसे. त्यांच्या भक्तिरसात बुडून जाण्याबाबतची पुढील कथा सांगितली जाते.
एकदा त्यांची पत्नी पाणी आणावयास म्हणून बाहेर गेली होती. तिने त्यांना आपल्या तान्ह्या बाळावर लक्ष ठेवण्यास सांगितले होते. गोरोबाकाका उन्मनी अवस्थेत गाडगी, मडकी घडविण्यासाठी लागणारी माती तुडवून चिखल करीत होते. त्यांचे ते तान्हे लेकरू चिखल करताना पायाखाली तुडविले गेले, तरी त्यांना भान नव्हते. पत्नी पाणी घेऊन आल्यावर पाहते, तर तिचे मूल गतप्राण झालेले होते. तिने हंबरडा फोडल्यावर गोरोबाकाका शुद्धीवर आले. तोपर्यंत वेळ निघून गेली होती. गोरोबांना वाटले आपण काय करून बसलो. अतिशय मनस्वी पश्र्चातापात ते दग्ध झाले. पण काही काळानंतर विठ्ठलाच्या कृपेने त्यांचे मूल जिवंत झाले आणि त्यांच्या पत्नीस परत मिळाले. यानंतर त्यांची पत्नीही विठ्ठलभक्त झाली.
(या घटनेवर आपला विश्र्वास बसत नाही. पण गोरोबाकाकांचे कोणतेही लिखित चरित्र उपलब्ध नाही. २-३ प्रसंग मौखिक परंपरेतून चालत आले आहेत. या प्रसंगांवरून त्यांच्या अमर्याद भक्तीची व त्यांच्या आध्यात्मिक अधिकाराची कल्पना आपल्याला येते एवढे निश्र्चित.)
संत गोरोबांकडे तेर-ढोकी येथे निवृत्तीनाथ, ज्ञानेश्र्वर महाराज, सोपानदेव, मुक्ताबाई, संत नामदेव, चोखामेळा, विसोबा खेचर आदी संतांचा मेळा जमला होता. याच प्रसंगी संत ज्ञानेश्र्वरांच्या विनंतीवरून गोरोबाकाकांनी ‘कोणाचे मडके (डोके) किती पक्के’ अशी प्रत्येकाच्या डोक्यावर मारून परीक्षा घेतली होती, असाही प्रसंग सांगितला जातो.
संत गोरोबांची उपलब्ध काव्यरचना अत्यल्प आहे. त्यांचे सुमारे २० अभंग सकलसंत गाथेत समाविष्ट केले आहेत. त्यांची काही पदरचना धुळे येथील समर्थ वाग्देवता मंदिर येथील बाडात सापडते. गोरोबा हे साक्षात्कारी संत होते.
निर्गुणाचे भेटी आलो सगुणासंगे। तव झालो प्रसंगी गुणातीत।।
अशा त्यांच्या अभंगांत अद्वैत साक्षात्काराचीच अनुभूती केवळ प्रकट झालेली दिसते. ‘म्हणे गोरा कुंभार’ ही त्यांची नाममुद्रा होय.
संत ज्ञानेश्र्वरांनी प्रतिपादिलेला ज्ञानोत्तर भक्तीचा मार्ग संत गोरोबांनी स्वीकारलेला दिसतो. प्रपंच करत परमार्थ साधता येतो याचे सर्वोत्तम उदाहरण म्हणजे संत गोरोबाकाका! त्यांची समाधी तेर गावी आहे. हे गाव सध्याच्या उस्मानाबाद जिल्ह्यात असून लातूरपासूनही जवळ आहे.

After this his wife also became a devotee of Vitthal.

A gathering of saints like Nivrittitanath, Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, Sopan Dev, Muktabai, Sant Namdev, Chokhamela, Visoba Khetar etc. were gathered at Saint-Goroba near Tair-Dhoki. On this occasion, on the request of Saint Dnyaneshwar, Gorobakak was told that a person who had examined everybody's head, who was hit by the head.
The available poetry of Saint Gorobe is minimal. About 20 of them have been included in the Sakalasant Gotha. Some of his writers are found in Badta at Samarth Vagdev temple in Dhule. Goroba was an inventive saint.
Nirguna's gifts have come in all. Few times multiply
Such an experience of Advaita Aksharakata appears to have been manifested in such an abhanga. 'Meen Gora Kumbhar' is their name-money.
Sage Gourob has seen the way in which the Saint Dnyaneshwar has enlightened the path of devotion. Saint Gorobakaka is the best example of being worshiped by God. His samadhi is in Ter. This village is located in present day Osmanabad district and is close to Latur.
