मेहेर बाबा हे एक गूढ सिद्ध पुरुष होते. आयुष्यातील बरेच वर्ष ते एकांतात मौन साधना करत राहिले. मेहेर बाबांच्या भक्तांनी त्यांना भगवंताचे अवतार मानले.
25 फेब्रुवारी रोजी त्यांचा जन्म पुण्यातील एका पारशी कुटुंबात झाला. त्यांचे मूळ नाव मेरवान एस. ईरानी (मेरवान शेरियर ईरानी) असे होते. ते एस. मुंदेगर ईरानी यांचे दुसरे पुत्र होते. त्यांचे शिक्षण लहानपणी पुण्यातील ख्रिश्चन हायस्कूल व डेक्कन कॉलेजमध्ये झाले.
मेहेर बाबा हे एक चांगले कवि व वक्ते होते. त्यांना कितीतरी भाषांचे ज्ञान होते. 19 वर्षांचे असतांना त्यांची भेट महिला संत हजरत बाबाजान यांच्याशी झाली. तेथूनच त्यांचे जीवन बदलले. त्यानंतर त्यांनी नागपुर येथील हजरत ताजुद्दीन बाबा, केडगाव येथील नारायण महाराज, शिर्डी चे साईबाबा आणि साकोरी येथील उपासनी महाराज या पाच महत्वपूर्ण अर्थात संतांना गुरु मानले.
उपासणी महाराज यांच्याकडून 7 वर्षे आध्यात्मिक ज्ञान प्राप्त केल्यानंतर ते इराणी अध्यात्माच्या सर्वोच्च स्तरावर पोहोचले. त्यांच्या भक्तांनी त्यांना मेहेर बाबा हे नाव दिले. मेहेर म्हणजे दयाळू पिता असा अर्थ होतो.
उत्तरप्रदेशच्या हमिरपूर जिल्ह्यात त्यांचे भक्त परमेश्वरी दयाल पुकर यांनी 1964 मध्ये भव्य अशा मेहेर मंदिराची बांधणी केली. 18 नोव्हेंबर 1970 मध्ये मंदिरात मेहेर बाबांच्या मूर्तिची स्थापना करण्यात आली. याठिकाणी दरवर्षी 18-19 नोव्हेंबर दरम्यान मेहेर प्रेम यात्रेचे आयोजन करण्यात येते. याशिवाय इतर अनेक ठिकाणी मेहेर बाबांची मंदिरे आहेत. मेहेर बाबा यांनी सहा वेळेस विदेशात प्रवास केला.
त्यांचा विशालकाय आश्रम महाराष्ट्रातील अहमदनगर शहाराजवळ असलेल्या मेहेराबाद येथे आहे. हा आश्रम मेहेर बाबांच्या भक्तांच्या चळवळीचे प्रमुख ठिकाण आहे. याच ठिकाणी मेहेर बाबांची समाधी आहे. त्यापूर्वी मुंबई येथेही त्यांचा एक आश्रम होता. शेवटी एकांतात तपश्चर्या व उपवास करत असतांना मेहेर बाबा यांनी 31 जानेवारी 1969 रोजी मेहेराबाद येथे प्राण सोडले.

Avtar Meher Baba
Meher Baba was a mysteriously proven man. For many years in his life he kept silent sadhana in solitude. The devotees of Meher Baba considered them the incarnation of God.
On 25th February he was born in a Parsi family in Pune. His original name is Marwan S. Irani (Merwan Sherier Iranian) was like this. He was the second son of S. Mundeghar Irani. He was educated at the Christian High School and Deccan College in Pune.
Meher Baba was a great poet and speaker. They had many languages knowledge. At the age of 19, he met with the Lady Saint Hazrat Baban. From there he changed his life. He later named Hazrat Tajuddin Baba of Nagpur, Narayan Maharaj of Kedgaon, Saibaba of Shirdi and Upasani Maharaj of Sakori, the saints as a guru.
Upon receiving spiritual knowledge from Upasani Maharaj for 7 years, He reached the highest level of Irani spiritualism. His devotees named him Maher Baba. Meher is a compassionate father.
In 1964, in the Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh, his devotee, Parmeshwari Dayal Pukar built a magnificent Meher temple. The statue of Meher Baba in the temple was established on November 18, 1970. The Meher Prem Yatra is organized every year between 18-19 November. Apart from this, there are many temples of Meher Baba in many other places. Meher Baba traveled six times abroad to travel abroad.
Their huge ashram is located at Mehrabad, near Ahmednagar City in Maharashtra. This Ashram is the main place for Meher Baba's devotees' movement. The place where Meher Baba's Samadhi is. Earlier, he had an ashram in Mumbai too. Finally, while doing penance and fasting in solitude, Meher Baba left his life on May 31, 1969 at Maherabad.
